To the Artist Who Feels Behind

Feeling behind in our work is something we all experience from time to time—I’ve felt it many times over the years of making. Questions arise like: Why hasn’t it happened for me yet? What’s the point in all this? Is the work even good enough?

Frankly, I may never have the answers to those questions. But one thing I do know: the surest way to guarantee failure is to stop completely.

Part of the reason I started this blog was to encourage myself—to see things through, to honour the process, and to push through the rather uncomfortable feeling that sharing personal reflections might actually have value. Maybe they can contribute to someone else’s creative path.

I don’t have all the answers, and I accept that that’s okay. What matters is the intention behind each word: to encourage patience, authenticity, and kindness toward ourselves as artists and as humans.

If you’re reading this, maybe you too have felt the pressure to be “ready” or “perfect” before showing up. I hear you. We’re all learning, growing, and becoming at our own pace. And yes, sometimes we feel like we don’t measure up along the way.

Well… so what?

This space is for embracing all that messiness—for honouring the seasons of creativity and the falling away from it, the moments of pause, and of course, celebrating the leaps forward.

Thank you for making the time to be here. I invite you to embrace your own process, celebrate the messy parts, and find grace in your becoming—even if it feels a bit slow or cringe-worthy sometimes.

You are actually right on time.
